About Retraining Pain

We are a specialist team of HCPC registered, psychologically informed physiotherapists, clinical psychologists and occupational therapists.  We work collaboratively using a biopsychosocial model to help with the challenge that persistent pain presents.

The Biopsychosocial Approach

We have training in contemporary pain neuroscience, and evidence based psychological therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and EMDR.

At Retraining Pain, we recognise that people with persistent pain often struggle with day to day activities, which can impact on the physical conditioning of the body.  Specialist physiotherapists can assist with reconditioning the body to enable an individual to thrive.  We really try to make movement both functional and fun, often by seeing people in their home environments.

Challenging thoughts, beliefs and emotions often come hand in hand with living with persistent pain.  Clinical psychologists can help develop a shared understanding of how the problem started, how we think about pain, our illness beliefs, and help our clients develop strategies to manage and/or overcome these.

The biopsychosocial approach treats the whole person by recognising that pain is not just physical, but a complex interaction between your biology, your psychological state and your social environment.

An Interdisciplinary Framework

Interdisciplinary teamwork is a key part of effective pain rehabilitation. Chronic or persistent pain is complex and influenced by the body, mind, emotions, and life circumstances, so no single clinician can address it all alone. Interdisciplinary team work is about different professionals working together, sharing knowledge, and delivering consistent messages, rather than treating someone in isolation. This joined-up approach helps reduce confusion, builds confidence, and supports people to make meaningful and lasting changes.

Qualified to Care

Our team is not just passionate about recovery; we are clinically regulated to deliver it. Every practitioner at Retraining Pain is fully qualified and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), adhering to the highest standards of clinical practice. Our interdisciplinary team brings together specialist physiotherapists, psychologists and occupational therapists with decades of combined experience in complex pain rehabilitation. Whether delivering treatment through our nationwide network or guiding you through our online programmes, you can trust that your care is in the hands of accredited experts who understand the science behind your condition.

Whether you are a pain sufferer or working in behalf of people who are, we are trained to help.
